Vice President Vance will campaign in Tyler, Texas, on Tuesday, according to The Hill. It will be his second Texas stop in a two-week span.

The Hill said the visit comes as Democrats gain ground in the polls.

President Trump campaigned in San Antonio on Wednesday, according to the same report, and in north Texas the week before. Late last month, Vance went to Harlingen to back Eric Flores, a Republican House candidate.

The races behind the visits

The Hill reported that polls put Democrat James Talarico ahead of Republican Ken Paxton, the state attorney general, in the Senate race.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott faces a close reelection race against Democrat Gina Hinojosa, according to the same report.

Democrats are also spending in that race. Earlier that week, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, a Democrat, and the Democratic Governors Association each announced $1 million to boost Hinojosa, The Hill said.

Several House contests in the state are competitive, The Hill reported, among them the 15th, 24th and 35th districts.

Why Tyler stands out

Tyler sits in the 1st District in northeast Texas. The Hill described the district as safely Republican. It is held by GOP Rep. Nathaniel Moran.

The report did not say what Vance plans to discuss in Tyler or whether other stops are scheduled.

The Hill described Texas as a focus of this election cycle, with Democrats trying to gain ground across the ballot.

What it means for you

  • Watch Tuesday: Vance is scheduled to campaign in Tyler, in Texas’s 1st District, according to The Hill.
  • If the polls The Hill cites hold, the Senate race between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton could be close.
  • The governor’s race is described as tight, and Pritzker and the Democratic Governors Association have each pledged $1 million for Democrat Gina Hinojosa, so outside money could play a role.
  • If you live in the 15th, 24th or 35th districts, The Hill lists them among the competitive House races in Texas.
